Building on a Foundation of Trust and Innovation to Empower Australia’s Public Sector

AWS has been a long-standing and trusted partner to the Australian Government, providing cloud services since 2019 that enable innovation and efficiency across federal, state, and territory agencies. This new agreement expands on our previous collaboration, offering enhanced benefits and opportunities for all levels of government, including local councils and public sector entities. Benefits include standardised contracting framework for improved efficiency, support for Australian Public Service technology and cloud upskilling, strengthened contractual terms, including ethical supplier conduct, expanded access to AWS Partner Network and AWS Marketplace and access to more than 240 AWS services, including cutting-edge AI, security, and quantum technologies.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has an enduring commitment to driving innovation, economic growth, and digital transformation across Australia, since establishing a local presence with the 2012 launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region. Since then, we've collaborated closely with Australian public and private sector organisations to provide secure, reliable, and innovative cloud solutions, including the 2023 launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Melbourne) Region.

The DTA’s announcement highlights the agreement’s impact and its capacity to support service delivery in areas such as transport, health, education, and taxation.

Investing in Australia's Future

AWS's commitment to Australia goes beyond providing cloud services. Since 2012, we have invested more than AU$9.1 billion in building and operating the AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region. We have also announced plans to invest a further AU$13.2 billion in cloud infrastructure in Sydney and Melbourne by 2027, demonstrating our long-term commitment to Australia's digital future.

Our investments extend to developing Australia's workforce and fostering local innovation. Since 2017, AWS has provided cloud skills training to over 400,000 individuals across Australia, we're collaborating with universities and TAFEs to develop flexible, industry-focused courses in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics. The AWS Partner Network supports local industry development, helping local Australian companies innovate and compete globally.

Enhancing Security and Compliance

We are highly sensitive to the needs of our customers and do not take lightly the responsibility of safeguarding our customers' most sensitive information and systems. Our security-first culture and substantial investments in personnel, processes, and technology aim to earn the continued trust of the Australian government and our customers across all sector. As a Strategic Hosting Provider certified under the Australian Government's Hosting Certification Framework (HCF), AWS meets the highest security standards. Looking Ahead

This renewed agreement between AWS and the Australian government sets the stage for continued digital transformation across the public sector. By leveraging AWS's advanced cloud technologies and extensive partner network, government agencies at all levels will have a wider variety of options to deliver innovative, efficient, and secure services to Australian citizens.
