As the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been felt across the world, our team has continued to explore ways Amazon can meaningfully support vulnerable members of our community.
Red Cross is dedicated to providing care where it is needed most, and has seen an increase in families needing support during the pandemic, particularly among those who are most vulnerable.
Red Cross’ Migration Support Program Senior Officer in Melbourne, Jane Lazzari said, “We’ve seen a significant spike in the number of people coming to Red Cross for support for the first time. The need to assist our more vulnerable community members has never been greater.”
Donating Amazon Flex delivery services
Until the end of June, Amazon is donating delivery services to Red Cross, using its network of Amazon Flex delivery partners to deliver food relief parcels to vulnerable families in the North and North West of Melbourne, and Dandenong and the surrounds. The Red Cross team will prepare and package boxes of shelf-stable groceries for clients, and Amazon Flex delivery partners collect the foods parcels and make “no-contact” deliveries directly to the doorsteps of those in need, enabling Red Cross to focus their time on important case work.
Ms. Lazzari continued, “Through the partnership with Amazon and the great work of the Amazon Flex delivery team, we’ve been able to extend our reach to many more people in need, and offer a little relief and respite during these tough times.”
Craig Fuller, director of operations, Amazon Australia said, “For our more vulnerable communities simply having access to things that many of us take for granted, such as food, has become increasingly tough given the impact of COVID-19. We’re pleased to be able to lend a hand to Red Cross in a practical way, extending our expertise and delivery capabilities to help vulnerable communities.”
“By the end of this month, we will deliver approximately 2,500 meals to those most in need. It’s a privilege to be able to partner with Red Cross to help in this small way. Our Amazon Flex delivery partners who have made Red Cross deliveries tell us they have also valued the opportunity to give back to their community.”
Through the partnership with Amazon we’ve been able to extend our reach to many more people in need.
As the need continues to grow in Australia, Red Cross is looking to scale-up its operations so it can provide support to even more people when they need it most. To volunteer or to donate, please visit: https://www.redcross.org.au/.
