While a tropical getaway is a time to switch off and recharge, for adventure-loving couple, Dean and Tegan — and Dean’s brother, Jaryd — a stint hopping around some of South East Asia’s most beautiful marine parks proved to be inspiration for a new profession.

“Seeing the amount of plastic waste as we travelled was a real eye-opener for us,” recalls Jaryd. “We saw first-hand what all the plastic pollution was doing to the environment and we wanted to do something about it.”

Determined to be part of the solution, the outdoor-loving trio — who spend most of their weekends hiking, boating or camping — began thinking of ways they could help, while doing something they loved at the same time.

“Loving the outdoors as much as we do, we thought of the hammock and how we could make that out of recycled plastic bottles,” explains Jaryd. Within a year, Nakie was born.

“Amazon has helped grow our business and been a great support to us. This year is our first Amazon Prime Day and we’re really excited,” he says.

And not only have Amazon Australia helped support online sales growth for this Aussie company, it’s also supported the family business’s charity endeavours, purchasing blankets for flood victims earlier this year. “It’s making a difference, not just a profit,” Dean says.

Maria runs the proudly all-Aussie produced, The DoggieBalm Co. which she started in 2019 after trialling many natural remedies on Ralphie, her beloved Maltese, because he had such sensitive skin.

The company’s plant-based formulations use the finest quality ingredients, all sourced in Australia, enriched with the properties to create a skincare range suitable for all dog breeds and all dog coat types.

Maria says she could likely manufacture her products for half the price overseas but makes and sources them all in Australia to ensure it is top quality. “We have a really high rate of returning customers to our online store,” she says.

The Melbourne-based small business began in 2013 when the two founders, Charles Ng and Rex Kuo developed a product to deal with a typically noisy and messy bunch of keys and convinced 5,000 people to crowdfund its development.

Since then, their products have helped “people live better lives through clever and innovative organisational solutions” around the world with the business now boasting 40 staff to help keep up with demand.
