With the approach of the summer holidays and all the festivities they bring, we chat with some of the people who keep Australia’s parcels and packages moving to customers’ doors.
Hasnain has been with Amazon in Melbourne since 2018 and he’s progressed through the business in that time – in his own words, here is his story…
“Amazon is basically my first ever workplace – I was really lucky to actually get the opportunity to work here. I was originally employed through an agency, and then was given the opportunity to be a full-time Amazon employee.
“I felt lucky to be offered a full-time role. It was an amazing feeling, honestly!
“So far, it’s been a really great experience. The atmosphere is really good. I really like the people who work here, and the opportunity that you get to move higher is also awesome.
“I started out as an Associate, then was given the opportunity to be a Process Guide, and then progressed to a Learning Ambassador. Last year, I was promoted to the role of Process Assistant.
“Ever since the start of this year, I’ve been a full-time Process Assistant, and also, over the past few months I have been training to be to be an Area Manager. So, whenever my current Area Managers are not at work, I'm given the opportunity to step in.
“It is more challenging, because instead of leading a small team, now you're leading a team of, say 100 or 150 people. So, it was quite daunting to get started, but I have some really good managers and they’ve really supported me the whole way.
“I’m excited to see what opportunities there are in the future, and I am hoping that one day I will have the opportunity to lead a team.”
What’s your favourite thing about summer?
“I just love summer! Like honestly, it's so much better than winter, because I don't have to wear that extra layer of clothing.”
What does a typical Holiday Season look like for you?
“We don't celebrate Christmas but, it is a fun time for pretty much everyone because we get to spend time with family, there’s a day off and I can watch cricket! I'm very much excited for England vs Australia.”
What’s the festive season like, work-wise?
“It does get busy, but I feel like that is where you know you get to see a lot more people actually stepping up, so it’s a really good situation to be in, to show that you can be a leader and that you have different ideas about how to lead a team or how to do things differently.”
